People are advised to use caution when on the lake and to stay away from any algae they see and should stay out of water on the Barton Creek Greenbelt except of course Barton Springs and Deep Eddy pools. Swimming holes in those areas have been removed from this map and are probably dry at the moment anyway.

Looking for the coolest, most refreshing places to beat the Central Texas heat? A couple of caveats: Some will be closed or not recommended after heavy rains, they're not all free, and one—Hamilton Pool—requires reservations totally worth it. Also, any of the greenbelt spots on this map will also dry up as the summer advances and should be avoided when water is low, stagnant, and warm.

Heavy rains will produce a waterfall running over into the swimming hole, which is quite the lovely sight. We had to include at least one spot on Lake Travis, which we suppose is technically a really big swimming hole. The island-like park is surrounded by the lake, and Mudd Cover and Gracy Cove don't allow pesky boats, so you can swim without fear. This Hill Country spot truly is an oasis.

With 32 springs, two pools, and a butterfly garden, it's practically Edenic. The Aquatic Division operates 45 public aquatic facilities , which includes 7 Regional pools, 3 Community pools, 22 Neighborhood pools, 1 Wading pool, Barton Springs Pool and 11 splash pads. In addition to coordinating open water events and swim team competitions , we also offer instructional programs such as masters swim , lifeguard and water safety training and youth and adult swim lessons.

A wide variety of swim lessons are available for students 6 months to adult. The Austin Parks and Recreation Department offers scholarships to those who qualify. The roads are well maintained country roads with little traffic. The prevailing winds during this time of year are from the southwest, which provides a tail wind for the last portion of the ride coming into the finish!
